You’ve likely experienced the panicking feeling of losing a debit card. In a moment of stress, it can be hard to know what steps to take. However, if you act quickly, unauthorized transactions can be prevented even if your debit card is lost or stolen. Here’s what to do:
1. Contact Peoples National Bank of Kewanee immediately.
Call our customer service at (309) 853-3333 if you suspect you’ve lost your card or it’s been stolen. Once alerted, we can block transactions and prevent unauthorized use, plus issue you a new card. If you are enrolled in PNB digital banking, you can also turn off your card immediately in the Manage Cards tab. If you are not enrolled in PNB digital banking and you are calling after office hours, please call us anyway and follow the prompts in our voice message to be directed to our core processor to get your card turned off.
2. Review your account activity.
Log in to digital banking and check for any suspicious charges. If you see transactions you don’t recognize, please report them to us right away.
3. Request a replacement card.
We can issue you a new debit card with a different number. You can also ask about our expedited delivery options if you rely on your card for everyday purchases. New debit cards can be printed on demand in our Kewanee and Dwight branches.
4. Update your automatic payments.
If you use your debit card for recurring bills, be sure to update your new card information with those merchants once your new debit card arrives.
Acting fast not only minimizes the risk of fraud but also ensures you get back to safe, everyday financial management without major disruption.
